Love Island Maura's fiancé revealed as 'hunky car mechanic who's still heartbroken'

Love Island 2019 star Maura Higgins' former fiance has been revealed as a hunky car mechanic who's still "heartbroken" over their split.

The pair are believed to have been together for nine years after meeting as teenagers in Ireland and they were planning to tie the knot and start a family together.

However, they split two years ago, and a friend of Maura's ex-fiancee claims James walked away after Maura issued him with an ultimatum over the wedding.

The insider told Mail Online : "In the end she told him she wanted settle down and gave him an ultimatum, but he didn’t want to be tied down by children so they broke up.

"You can hardly blame Maura for wanting to take things to the next stage. To be with someone for nine years and not walk down the aisle is an awfully long time...

"James hasn’t moved on at all and hasn’t met anyone else. He still holds a candle to Maura and I think he regrets not being willing to commit."

The friend added that Maura used to be a hairdresser in her local salon while James worked in his dad's garage.

However, she began to change when she got a bit of modelling work and started to imagine a life for herself outside of Ireland.

Following the break-up, Maura is said to have moved on by dating a British TV director called Paul Caslin, but they split in November after he moved to LA.

They are believed to have tried to make the relationship work after the move but the long-distance was too difficult to sustain.

Love Island airs tonight at 9pm on ITV2
