Love Island catch-up: Amy gives heartbreaking speech as she quits, with Lucie and George kicked out in double dumping

It’s Tuesday, the sun is shining, Barcelona is in Italy, and the latest episode of Love Island has just aired.

Unfortunately, tonight's episode was more gloomy than the weather, with Lucie and George (remember George?) being dumped from the villa, and Amy choosing to leave on account of her heartbreak. Given that she was cast aside by her half-boyfriend and was then forced to watch him crack on with Maura, it was an understandable decision.

Here are all the talking points from tonight's episode.

Lucie and George leave

After Curtis and Amy, and Lucie and George, received the lowest number of votes from the public, their fellow Islanders were forced to choose which couple to dump from the villa. Unsurprisingly, they chose the latter. On the one hand, it was a sad loss to the villa. On the other hand, with all due respect, I'm not sure George was really cut out for the life of a reality TV celebrity.

Maura and Curtis crack on

Maura has fancied Curtis from the beginning, apparently. Even when she was flirting with Tommy, or inviting Tom (remember Tom?) to the hideaway. It's hard to believe, sure, but Maura has single-handedly saved the show from falling into obscurity, so I suppose she can do what she wants.

Molly-Mae and Tommy drop the L word

"Whenever I’m in bed and I see her coming down the hall I just feel nervous." Thank goodness for Molly-Mae and Tommy for reminding us all that love isn't dead. In tonight's episode, they finally broached the L word. Not the Showtime series – this show is, depressingly, far too hetero for that – but "I love you". Over four weeks in, it was about time someone declared their undying love.

Amy leaves the villa

In a genuinely heartbreaking few moments, Amy announced she was leaving the villa after being cast aside by her half-boyfriend Curtis. "I’m gonna let you pursue whoever it is you wanna pursue, because you can’t do that with me here," she told him, "and I can’t heal in here. And once this is all done, we will have the best friendship you’ll ever see in your life. The only way we’re gonna be friends is if I go now. I hope you find someone that makes you so, so happy." Later, she told the cameras, "I never thought i would fall in love, I never thought i would meet someone so special that I would fall in love, and I know now that that will happen for me again.” Wow, my hayfever is playing up again.

The new Islanders arrive

We don't know much yet about Francesca and Chris, but they are wearing a disconcerting amount of clothes.

Catch up with the live blog as it happened

Welcome to tonight's Love Island live blog! In case you missed them, here are the talking points from last night's episode...

Anna turned 29

Apparently this makes her "an official cougar". Anna received plenty of attention from her fellow Islanders, although it's unlikely she appreciated the comment about her being older than her on-then-off-then-on-again beau, Jordan. She was probably still riding the high of Jordan cooking her a love-heart omelette, though.

Amy finally confronted Maura about her flirtation with Curtis

After watching Maura crack on with her former flame, Amy had clearly had enough. She asked Maura why she was pursuing a relationship with the professional dancer a mere three days after he had broken Amy's heart. Maura didn't seem to have a reason other than she fancied Curtis, but later told him that she felt more comfortable pursuing him than if it had been another boy, because she's not as close with Amy as the other girls. Seems legit?

Tommy asked Molly-Mae to make it official

In one of the sweeter moments of the series so far, Tommy went to lengths to write Molly-Mae a love letter asking her to be his official girlfriend. Love Island gets a lot of flack for showcasing examples of toxic male behaviour, but watching Tommy be so open about his feelings was rather endearing. And Molly-Mae looked genuinely delighted (and said yes, of course).

There were goats

This was probably the weirdest date on Love Island, at least in this series. Anton, who until recently had been languishing as the only perpetually single man on the Island, went on his first date with Belle where they were asked to milk some goats to make cheese. Apparently it's what all the kids are doing nowadays.

Jourdan and Danny got dumped

While fans had speculated that this couple's dwindling time on screen was a sign they were about to get booted off the show, it was still a shock (and quite a disappointment) to learn we'd be saying goodbye to them. Another couple will be dumped by the Islanders in tonight's episode, which kicks off in 20 minutes!

These are some real stage whispers happening right now
Wait, Ovie is friends with George?
Me: "Maybe the editors have cut all George's interesting bits out?"
My housemate: "But even now, look at him, wandering around like a fish"
Maura: "You're not thick with me?"
Curtis: "Huh?"
A match made in heaven

Molly-Mae: "To be loved by Tommy... honestly, I wish everyone could experience it in this world." I'm actually OK, but thank you.

No, Amy, Anna and Amber THREW CUSHIONS AT YOU to stop you from doing this
Oh Amy, no.
Amy to Curtis: "I’m gonna let you pursue whoever it is you wanna pursue, because you can’t do that with me here. And I can’t heal in here."
AMY REVEALS SHE IS LEAVING VILLA TO GIVE CURTIS BETTER CHANCE AT FINDING LOVE

"He probably needs some alone time... I'll speak to him tonight." Oh Maura. Even when you're awful, you're brilliant.
"I can say I fancy you, I just can't say I like you." Marvin is the new Anton.
These new islanders are wearing a disconcerting amount of clothes.
