Love Island - Lewis Capaldi shows support for Glasgow shop worker ex Paige Turley

Lewis Capaldi has finally shared his thoughts about his former girlfriend's hunt for a new romance on Love Island.

Fans have been waiting with baited breath to find out how the chart-topper feels about Glasgow shop worker Paige Turley's entrance into the Cape Town villa on Sunday.

As reported by Glasgow Live, Paige (who works at Forty Clothing) is one of the hopefuls on the first ever edition of the winter series of the ITV2 reality dating show.

The former Britain's Got Talent contestant grew close to the Bathgate megastar when they both attended Motherwell College, and it was their split that was thought to have inspired his his album Divinely Uninspired To A Hellish Extent, as well as the biggest song in the UK of 2019, Someone You Loved.

Now Lewis, who is in the middle of a worldwide tour, has spoken out via New Zealand entertainment news site and radio and TV show, The Edge.

He said: "I've known her for years.

"18 was when we first met.

"19 was when we started going out.

"20 was when we finished going out."

He added: "It was very amicable, the split.

"She never told me she was going on it.

"It would have been nice to get the heads up.

"But fair play, good luck to her."

But the singer/songwriter made it clear there's no bad blood between the pair, and he'll be rooting for his ex - mainly so he can bag a share of her cash prize if she wins.

He said: "I'll be f*****g watching it."

"I'll be like, 'Go on Paige'.

"C'mon, kiss him.

"I hope she wins.

He added: "The prize of fifty grand.

"They asked you to go on it, I'm not saying I'm the reason.

"But also, sling me two grand."

Paige is currently matched with Ollie Williams, who has caused controversy after images were revealed of him posing next to dead animals after hunting.
