Love Island launch episode scores highest ever viewing figures

It’s only one episode in and already Love Island is smashing the viewing figures.

The reality show’s launch on Monday night was watched by a massive 3.3million viewers (18.5 per cent share).

It was the ITV2 show’s highest ever opening, and the highest rating programme in the 9pm slot across all channels.

Despite the show facing criticism about the lack of diversity, it seems people can’t get enough of the dating programme.

Caroline Flack (ITV)

The 90-minute show, fronted by Caroline Flack, performed better than last year’s series opener, which drew in an average of 2.9million viewers.

At its peak, 3.7million viewers - up by 10 per cent on the viewing figures from last year's launch.

Anna and Amber (ITV)

It was also the most popular programme for 16 to 34 year old viewers.

The opener saw the girls and boys take part in their first coupling, which ended with Lucie and Joe, Amber and Callum, Amy and Anton, Yewande and Michael, and Anna and Sherif.

Yewande (ITV)

But it would not be Love Island if there wasn’t some drama from the start - it seems there could be a love triangle developing between Lucie, Joe and Anton.

Amy (ITV)

But if that wasn’t enough to unsettle the group, two more boys were thrown into the mix - Tommy Fury (brother of boxer Tyson) and Curtis Pritchard (brother of dancer AJ).

Tonight’s episode will see the pair break up aligences by choosing a girl to couple up with.

Love Island airs tonight from 9pm on ITV2.
