The 2020 series of Love Island was thrown into doubt when countries around the world went into lockdown, and many fans have been wondering whether the reality show will be airing this summer.
Love Island usually films in June and July in Mallorca, Spain, but the country currently has a travel ban and social distancing restrictions in place.
ITV studios head Kevin Lygo has now revealed that Love Island bosses considered taking the show to Cornwall, but it was eventually decided that it would not be the same.
Speaking as part of the Edinburgh TV Festival, which this year takes place online in a series of live streams, Lygo said Love Island might not go ahead this year.
He said: “What kind of message are sending out if we're doing a show where the couples are crammed together all slathering over each other, and the rest of the world is told not to go near anyone in the park?”
Lygo added that a decision would be made “very soon” and admitted there would be a "big commercial impact" if the show doesn't happen.
“We’re approaching the moment of, is it feasible?” he said. “Will Mallorca open its doors?"
