Laura Whitmore paid tribute to her friend Caroline Flack and called out online bullies in a tearful radio segment.
Speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live, Ms Whitmore, who was Caroline Flack's replacement on Love Island, said: "I wish we were talking under better circumstances and I've been debating whether I should, would or could come on air today.
"But this isn't about me.
"Yesterday we lost someone before their time - at age 40, Caroline Flack made the decision to take her own life and I want to talk about it.
"I'm going to talk about her and give her the respect that she deserves and that she didn't always get.
"Anyone who knew Caroline knew she was vivacious, loving and had a passion for life which is why none of this makes sense."
The presenter went on to say Caroline loved music and dancing and that the song Angels, by Robbie Williams, reminded her of Caroline, who she had known for 10 years.
Laura Whitmore added: "She was bubbly and for such a small stature, commanded a room.
"She loved to laugh and had the most infectious chuckle.
"She also had many struggles - I'm not going to pretend she was perfect, but is anyone?
"She lived every mistake publicly under the scrutiny of the media.
"Caroline loved to love - that's all she wanted which is why the show Love Island was important to her because the show is about finding love, friendship, having a laugh.
"The problem wasn't the show - the show to work on is loving and caring and safe and protected.
"The problem is that the outside world is not."
The presenter went on to slam Twitter trolls and anyone who has "knocked someone because of their appearance, invaded someone else's privacy or who have made mean, unnecessary comments" and urged them to take a "look at themselves."
The star became emotional and urged people not to tear others down to make themselves feel good.
Love Island will return to our screens tonight on ITV2 at 9pm and will begin with a tribute to Caroline Flack.
Ms Flack's body was discovered at her North London home at the weekend.
Her family confirmed the tragic news in a statement released on Saturday night.
They said: "We can confirm that our Caroline passed away today on the 15th February.
"We would ask that the press both respect the privacy of the family at this difficult time."
