Love Island host Laura Whitmore escapes to Merseyside beach with 'creepy' figures

Laura Whitmore swapped the famous Love Island villa for an "escape" closer to home - on Crosby beach.

The popular presenter said she hasn't been abroad since flying back from the Love Island final at the beginning of this year, but she has been enjoying "finding escapes closer to home".

Recently, Laura and her Love Island partner Iain Stirling have enjoyed a series of days out around Liverpool and on Wirral.

The pair have shared a series of snaps from their time in Merseyside, with Laura even  braving a dip in New Brighton last weekend.

Laura, who recently celebrated her three year anniversary with Iain, took to Crosby beach this weekend for a day out alongside the famous Iron Men sculpture.

The well known art work, titled Another Place, is a piece of modern sculpture by Sir Antony Gormley located at Crosby Beach in Merseyside.

It is made up of 100 cast iron figures facing towards the sea, with the figures modelled on the artist's own naked body.

Laura described the sculpture as "very cool" but a "bit creepy".

Posting a carousel of images to her Instagram page, Laura said: "Beach day! As someone who spends a lot of their life travelling around, it feels strange that I haven’t been on a plane since I flew back from the Love Island final in South Africa in February.

"I've recently loved finding escapes closer to home. Another Place is a piece of modern sculpture by Sir Antony Gormley located at Crosby Beach in Merseyside. It consists of 100 cast iron figures facing towards the sea.

"Very cool... if a bit creepy. Imagine walking down the beach after a few drinks at night and spotting these lads!"

The images have been liked more than 69,000 times by fans and celebrities alike.

Good Morning Britain presenter Piers Morgan liked the photos while others were quick to comment with their love for her destination choice.

Jennifer West said: "Its awesome there!!"

Colette Cooper said: "I know that place well!"

Lisa Eldridge commented: "I was there last weekend !! So good ❤".

Meg Mathews said: "Visited it loved that beach".

Another fan added: "That is superawesome. What a sculpture. ❤".
