Love Island final catch-up: Amber and Greg in shock win against Molly-Mae and Tommy

Amber and Greg have won Love Island 2019 in a shock final after favourites Tommy and Molly-Mae came in second.

The winning couple was voted for by the public, with runners-up Maura and Curtis, and Ovie and India coming 4th and 3rd, respectively.

In the live final, the couples attended a “ball” where they were able to dress up and read declarations of love to one another, with many viewers praising Greg and Ovie’s speeches for being particularly moving.

As presenter Caroline Flack announced the winning couple, Amber was shown with a shocked look on her face. As per tradition, one half of the couple was asked to choose whether to take the money for themselves or split it with their partner -- Greg chose to split the £50,000 winnings with Amber.

The liveblog is now closed

Good evening, and welcome to The Independent's liveblog of the Love Island final!

It's going to be an emotional one, not least because I'm so overjoyed at the thought of finally having free evenings each night. I'm sure you lot feel the same. But it's impossible to look away, right?

Anyway, we have four couples left in the final: Tommy and Molly-Mae, Greg and Amber, Maura and Curtis, and Ovie and India.

Who do you think's going to win the £50,000 prize?

The biggest Love Island moments – in pictures

The IndependentAhead of the series finale, we look back at some of the biggest moments of the hit reality dating show
It's a tough call for who will win tonight. My money (figuratively speaking) is on Tommy and Molly-Mae, given how viewers tend to favour the longest-lasting couples and they've been together pretty much from the beginning of this season.

HOWEVER... Amber is a big favourite too and she's come a long way this series, plus everyone is obsessed with Greg's Irish accent.

Then there's Maura and Curtis, who have each arguably had the most tumultuous time on the show (apart from Amber), with Maura one of the most interesting individuals on the show.

And what about Ovie, everyone's favourite thanks to his robot arms, breakfast enthusiasm and general refusal to get involved with anyone else's drama? Although I'm not convinced about his chemistry with Belle...

Who do you think's going to win?
Here's a quick preview of what to expect tonight

Love Island on Twitter

Twitter“✨FIRST LOOK ✨ An epic summer of love is almost over for our Islanders, and the final four couples wake up to one last day in paradise. No, YOU'RE crying... 😭 Don't miss the final of Love Island 2019, tonight at 9pm on @ITV2 #LoveIsland https://t.co/8Jn3M54eJV”
New question: who's going to stay together the longest?
My trusty pal Alisha is here tonight, eating the Spanish feast I made in honour of this auspicious occasion.

Her predictions:

She thinks Amber and Greg will break up in seconds of the show being over.

Ovie and India will last for a few high-profile club appearances before logistical issues emerge.

Maura and Curtis will split once Curtis gets offered a spot as a professional alongside his brother on Strictly Come Dancing so he can hook up with one of the celebrities.

Tommy and Molly-Mae will move in together too quickly, realise they've rushed their relationship a la Jack and Dany and realise they're too young to be that serious.

FIN
Just a few minutes to go!
If anyone cares, here's a pic of the Spanish feast I made for Alisha and myself. We just cracked open the Cava https://twitter.com/AlishaRouse/status/1155923625138171916
Starting with some very slow-mo shots of the couples enjoying their final moments together. You can imagine the directors screaming at them: LOOK MORE SEXY. KISS BETTER.
That zebra Caroline Flack is wearing died in vain.
Caroline: "Let's see how they spent their last morning in the villa."
Alisha: "CHATTING SHITE PROBABLY."
OK so the final four couples are getting a summer ball. Curtis is teaching everyone how to dance.
What is Tommy doing. Surely it's illegal.
Greg is taking to this like a fish to polluted water.
Maura has got fanny flutters again. Think there's cream for that.
It's time to go shopping. For the girls, because only girls like shopping. Obvs.
Right well I'm not getting much feedback for the blog but apparently people are very impressed with my Spanish feast. No you cannot all come over for dinner.
