Love Island fans thrown by Iain Stirling's comment in opening voiceover

As with every series of the hit dating show Love Island, the narration is provided by Scottish comedian Iain Stirling. With his classic puns and witty sense of humour, Iain is a fan favourite and has become a household name thanks to the show.

However, one comment made in last night's episode (January 16) was questioned by many viewers and had them heading for Twitter to voice their thoughts. Iain was introducing this year’s brand new villa in the opening scene when he said: “This is the perfect place for some serious fun in the sun and in just two months time one couple will be walking out of here with that £50,000 cash prize.”

The confirmation of the timeline raised a few eyebrows, with some fans surprised by how long the series will stretch out for. Showbiz journalist @TooManyEmmas tweeted: “Iain Stirling just said two months. Two months of this. This will take us to Paddy’s Day. God speed.”

Others who had tuned in for the first episode of the new winter season shared similar comments, with many questioning if the length had changed. "Two months!??? They might as well get married at this point," tweeted @Zhanedeex.

One comment on Twitter from @MaryAdindu read: "Two months long??? Since when?" While @polkadotleah echoed: “Was winter Love Island always two months? #loveisland."

The answer to the question is no, winter Love Island has not always been two months, although its summer counterpart usually is. Back in 2020, when the original and only other winter Love Island aired, the show only went on for six weeks compared to the eight this year’s series is getting.

While one viewer said ITV was "overdoing it" with the time frame, others said they are ready for two months of Love Island. @sweetmclody tweeted: “I am ready to make Love Island my personality for two months again.”

Although no date has been confirmed yet for the finale, two months or eight weeks would take the date to March 13. This year's series is hosted by Bristol's own Maya Jama, who said she "hopes to make fans proud" after taking over from Laura Whitmore.
