Love Island fans threaten to complain to Ofcom as Gemma, 19, kisses Davide amid age gap

Love Island 2022 viewers were left threatening to complain to Ofcom after 19-year-old Gemma Owen kissed 27-year-old bombshell Islander Davide during a round of dares.

As Love Island returned for another summer of sun-kissed daybed flirtation, the teenage daughter of football legend Michael Owen was paired up with Liam Llewellyn, aged 22.

But when the contestants were tasked with a series of dares, Gemma was told to kiss the Islander she fancies the most and made a beeline for Italian bombshell Davide Sanclimenti.

But the moment in the first episode of Love Island sparked concerns about the age gap between the potential love interests.

Taking to Twitter to express their outrage, one viewer wrote: “If Gemma and Davide end up together the Ofcom complaints are gunna be WILD it’s just so wrong.”

Another insisted: “If Davide and Gemma couple up I'm writing to Ofcom.”

Someone else said: "O'm going to email Ofcom if Gemma and Davide get together, this should be illegal."

"Don’t care no one above 25 should be getting with someone who’s got teen in their age," said another.

A worried viewer added: "I’m sorry but how old is Davide, because if he’s over 25 and he ends up with Gemma, I'm definitely complaining with OFCOM."

Love Island viewers were left divided and puzzled during the launch of the latest series on Monday night as Gemma entered the villa ahead of the first coupling up of the series.

Viewers were stunned after Gemma confirmed she was 19-years-old, making her the youngest contestant on the series this year, and one of the youngest Islanders across all the series.

But this left some viewers confused, with many arguing Gemma was too young to be on a show looking for 'the one'.

Gemma confirmed she had been single for a year and a half since her last relationship ended, with her now wanting to find romance in the villa.

But given her age, some viewers believed the show should make a change and have an age limit, as they weren't sure anyone below "21+" should be on it.

Many contestants go on the show after struggling to find the one, while there's the obvious bonus of fame and fortune.

Taking to Twitter, one viewer wrote: "Why is a 19 year old on the show? This is so sad."

Another added: "Ngl the minimum age for Love island should be 21+ 19 is wayyyy to young."

Gemma was paired up with Liam Llewellyn, aged 22, with viewers tuning in not sure she was keen on the decision made by the public.

Love Island airs every night at 9pm on ITV2 and ITV Hub.
