Love Island fans threaten to boycott show over 'stomach-turning' term used by boys in villa

Love Island fans are not happy with this year's male contestants, after the way they have been heard talking about the girls in the villa quickly rubbed viewers up the wrong way.

The boys in the new series of the ITV2 show have been guilty of referring to the female contestants as "birds" on multiple occasions - and fans watching at home have apparently had enough of hearing it. Fuming viewers took to social media to express their disgust at the term, branding it "cringe", "disrespectful" and "the grossest thing ever".

Will was among those guilty of using the offending nickname, telling some of his pals: "I'm not gonna lie, I do want to graft your bird as well." Meanwhile, Ron was also heard saying to the boys: "You've got another fella who's trying to literally nick your bird of you."

Taking to Twitter, one frustrated viewer asked: "Why has saying 'birds' suddenly become acceptable on Love Island?"

And many fans were quick to slam the term. "Nothing gives me the ick more than someone calling a woman 'bird'," one person complained.

Another added: "Every time I hear 'bird' I physically recoil."

"Can we cancel the term 'bird' for girls, it makes my stomach turn," a third viewer pleaded.

"Petition to stop calling women 'birds'," someone else insisted.

Some went as far as to say that the use of the word was enough to get them to switch off altogether. "If I hear one of these boys say the word 'bird' again I'm boycotting this whole show," one fan tweeted.
