Love Island fans surprised Gemma and Luca didn't split earlier after 'obvious' signs

Love Island 2022 couple Gemma Owen and Luca Bish might have called time on their three month relationship, but fans have revealed they're not shocked by the split.

Runners up on the series, the pair had their fair share of drama on the ITV2 reality series but seemed to be happy in their relationship once out of the Love Island villa.

However, their shock split this week appears to be something fans had already anticipated. When both Gemma and Luca made their individual statements announcing the break up, fans weren't surprised.

One fan even tweeted: "I expected them to break up as soon as they landed in London."

Another fan shared: "I’m sure Gemma and Luca splitting up has been a shock to absolutely no one."

A third added: "Gemma and Luca split is a perfect example as to why you don’t believe everything you see on socials."

Another remarked over the speed of the announcements, as they said: "There I was thinking Luca and Gemma were releasing the news of their breakup after time had passed, only to find out they’d split earlier TODAY. Gemma FLEW to let everyone know she was free."

Gemma announced the split first, posting on her Instagram stories: "o all my followers, I wanted to let you know that Luca and I are no longer in a relationship. It wasn’t an easy decision but ultimately this is what is best for both of us right now.

"Many of you have been on this journey with us from the very beginning, and I want to thank you for your continued support as we start new chapters. Love always, Gem x."

In response, Luca wrote on his own Instagram stories: "I would have liked some time to process this privately but as you all already now know, sadly Gemma and I made the mutual decision earlier today to go our separate ways.

"We have been on such a journey together and have made some amazing memories which I will treasure. I can’t thank everyone enough for their support for us as a couple during and after Love Island.

“We will remain good friends and I wish nothing but the best for her."
