Love Island fans accuse Jake of 'copying' romantic gesture from past series

Love Island fans are rounding on Jake Cornish after noticing he routinely does things for the cameras from inside the villa – and after he casually orchestrated arguments between fellow Islanders.

For weeks, fans of the ITV2 series have speculated that the 24-year-old water engineer has been engineering drama inside the villa in an effort to get himself closer to the £50,000 prize fund that the winners of Love Island get to keep if crowned king and queen of the series.

Viewers were horrified when Jake caused chaos in Casa Amor when he encouraged other male contestants to play away from their other halves in the main villa – but now viewers are wondering just how much of Jake’s actions have ulterior motives or are for the cameras.

In recent scenes, Jake presented 21-year-old waitress girlfriend Liberty Poole – who he has been coupled with since week one – with a bracelet that he had stashed in his suitcase and ready to give to ‘The One’ on the show.

But viewers have noticed this stunt has been performed on previous seasons of Love Island and are now convinced Jake is just trying to create romantic gestures for the cameras.

He presented Liberty with a magnetised bracelet which he claimed was inspired by their own romance as they were: "always gravitating towards one another".

However, back in series three in 2017, Kem Cetinay presented girlfriend Amber Davies with an infinity bracelet - a symbol of eternal love – after they had spent weeks as boyfriend and girlfriend.

One viewers complained on Twitter : "jake defo is a showman, i bet he only brought the bracelet just to win over the fans."

It's far from the only time Jake has been accused of being fake by viewers – and his fellow contestants.

While Jake has also been accused of trying to ‘produce’ scenes on the show – including a moment where he held Liberty back from congratulating Kaz Kamwi after Tyler asked her to be his official girlfriend.

Liberty confronted Jake over this move, saying: "I know you say sometimes, like, 'We are on a TV show', but at the same time, what makes it good is just you being yourself, do you know what I mean?

"Tonight, me wanting to run up and hug Kaz as soon as she came down the stairs was a natural reaction to me."

But a highly sensitive Jake hit back: "Oh my god, serious? I just thought it'd be nice for you to have your own alone time with Kaz, not with everyone there."

And fans of the show also hit out at Jake when a recent episode saw him give a lap dance to fellow contestants – which some viewers felt looked too well rehearsed to be spontaneous.

One fan remarked online: “Just adds to my thoughts of him playing up to the cameras rather than doing things naturally.

"I mean, fair enough if he wanted to do well at this task but I thought he could have been funnier and danced with the other girls more."

Jake’s house of cards started to tumble down earlier this month when the Somersetonian discovered the public were not voting for him as a favourite.

His world was rocked when he found himself at risk of being dumped from the island after the viewing public voted to save their favourite stars.

While Liberty sailed through, Jake unexpectedly found himself up for the chop alongside much less-established contestants Dale Mehmet and Tyler Cruickshank.

The revelation shook Jake – and his romance with Liberty, as many viewers watching predicted she might try to ditch him having discovered he is not as popular as they may have previously thought.

And now the couple have been voted one of the least convincing by viewers – with them at risk of being dumped from the show just a week before the grand final.
