Love Island fans left sobbing as Jake and Liberty make emotional exit from the villa

Love Island fans were left in tears following Friday's emotional episode - as Jake Cornish and Liberty Poole bid farewell to the villa in an emotional exit.

The pair, who had been together since day one of this year's series, made history as they became the first couple to quit the show together on Friday night - just days before the final.

As rumours and reports of a double walkout circulated the internet hours before the episode, their exit was confirmed - with the former lovers saying goodbye to their friends and quitting the show.

While the marketing student and 24-year-old Jake had been the villa's longest lasting couple, the pair called time on their romance during Thursday's episode - with Liberty heartbroken over recent events.

The Brummie babe sobbed as she told Jake she didn't think they were right for each other, and that she felt as though he did not love her for who she was.

Jake appeared baffled by his girlfriend's admission at first, having remained with her since day one with things running smoothly for most of the time.

It wasn't to be though, and the one-time couple agreed to end their seven-week romance just days before the final, with a major split never having happened on the show in the final week before now.

As producers still sent the former couple on one final date on Friday night's show, the exes discussed their time together in the villa and made the shocking joint decision to head home early.

Liberty said it was the correct decision for her to leave regardless, and he agreed to do the same - not wanting her to return to the outside world on her own.

The one-time couple hugged it out saying "that's life" admitting they both had no regrets.

As they returned to the villa, they asked their fellow Islanders to gather at the fire pit as they prepared to break the news to them.

The pair then confessed they had split for good, and would be going their separate ways.

Liberty said: "We've just both come to the conclusion that obviously that in this moment in time, it's best for us to go our separate ways."

While their housemates and fellow islanders were heartbroken to say their goodbyes to the former couple, Love Island viewers were also in bits over the shock departure.

Many took to social media to share their feelings as Jake and Liberty left the villa.

"I AM SOBBING I’M GONNA MISS SEEING HER ON MY SCREEN," one upset fan tweeted on Friday night, alongside a snap of Liberty.

"Liberty walking out the door with Kaz crying in the villa made me so sad," another wrote as the sad scenes aired, with a third adding: "This is the most painful exit ever like the most emotional Friendship exist my Babies my #Kiberty"

Jake and Liberty's joint departure is a show first for Love Island - with other people who have left done so solo or been axed from the series.

Any couples that have left together in the past have only left through being dumped, or because one of the pairing has been dumped.

Love Island airs every night at 9pm on ITV2 and ITV Hub.
