Love Island fans in tears as Teddy Soares opens up for the first time about losing his dad to cancer

Love Island star Teddy Soares is among the brave celebrities taking part in this year's Strictly The Real Full Monty.

Teddy, who appeared on the ITV2 dating show this summer, is set to strip off alongside stars such as Blue singer Duncan James, Loose Women panellist Brenda Edwards and Real Housewives of Cheshire star Christine McGuinness.

The famous faces are baring all in the two-part series to raise awareness of checking for cancer - and ultimately saving lives.

The first episode, which aired on Monday night, showed this year's participants gearing up to take on the ultimate challenge of performing a strip tease in front of the nation.

Fronted by Diversity star Ashley Banjo, the stars were shown rehearsing their awareness-raising performance set to take place in front of thousands Blackpool on Tuesday night.

Each of the celebrities starring in this years's show have been touched by cancer either personally or through losing a friend or relative.

During last night's show, Strictly star James Jordan was seen getting a tattoo as a tribute to his late dad who sadly lost his battle with cancer in March this year.

The tattoo read: "I had a hero, I called him dad."

Love Island star Teddy thanked James for sharing his story, which he says reminded him of when he was younger.

The 26-year-old then revealed that he lost to dad to cancer when he was just 13-years-old.

Opening up for the first time, Teddy said: "My first memory of my dad being ill was when I saw one of those cardboard bowls that you get in a hospital.

"I would always hear him throwing up in it, and that's what sticks when I think of my dad being ill with cancer.

"The last time we saw him, we didn't have any indication that it was severe and he wasn't going to come back."

James Jordan could be seen tearing up as Teddy continued his heartbreaking story.

"I remember my older cousins broke it to us that dad had passed away and it was painful," he said.

"We couldn't even fathom what came out of his mouth and we were crying for hours, literally hours on end I was a mess.

"You just think 'why us?'".

Teddy then revealed that he kept his dad's death a secret from his peers and teachers at school.

"Teachers would ask if my parents were coming to parents even and I'd tell them it's just my mum," he said.

"Then I'd go off to the toilet and cry, but nobody would know that.

"It was a lot easier to do that than talking about it.

"As a family we were broken but we had to keep it together as my mum was pregnant at the time with my little sister."

Teddy then admitted this was the first time he had openly spoken about his father's passing.

"Being able to share my story with other people may help. Every single day in everything I do my dad is always at the back of my mind," he said, showing his dad's necklace that he wears ever day.

Love Island fans revealed they broke down after hearing Teddy's emotional story.

"Hearing teddy soares’ story of losing his dad breaks my heart losing your dad is the worst pain in the world and i wouldn’t wish it on my worst enemy," wrote Shan.

"#Teddysoares talking about losing his dad just broke me, I can't even imagine being 13 and losing a parent #StrictlyTheRealFullMonty," Leanne said.

"Well done lads @The_JamesJordan and @teddysoares for opening up and sharing. It makes a real difference to many fighting their own battles. Thank you," @wiltsrednecks99 thanked.
