Love Island fans fume as fashion blogger Kaz Kamwi is chosen last to couple up

Some Love Island fans were left fuming during the first episode of the ITV2 show when contestant Kaz Kamwi ended up being picked last in the first recoupling.

The 26-year-old fashion blogger, who hails from Essex, was the topic of several furious social media tweets as viewers expressed their frustration that she was shunned by the boys.

Kaz, who only stepped forward for Aaron Francis, eventually coupled up with Toby but viewers had already flocked to Twitter to say that 'she deserves better' than being picked last. Others suggested that someone like Ovie Soko should be heading to the house to sweep Kaz off her feet in the coming episodes.

One Twitter fan wrote: "if these mediocre men make kaz feel any less of herself there WILL be riots and i will be instigating them #LoveIsland."

"Kaz deserves better than last choice kmt #LoveIsland," added another.

"Why do the #LoveIsland producers always pick men who like white women, but then get a couple of black girls on to be picked last?" said another.

Other viewers pointed to similarities to Black female contestants Yewande Biala and Samira Mighty - who were also last to be chosen on their seasons.

Another Love Island viewer added: "if kaz gets the yewande and samira treatment i swear #LoveIsland."

Despite being chosen last, Kaz appeared optimistic about her coupling. She later suggested in the show that Toby would be her type if he was a little more into the gym.

As for Toby, he was also pleased with who he had coupled up with, and said: "Yeah there is attractiveness to Kaz because she is so bubbly, so funny. I bounce off her. I'm telling jokes, she's laughing. She's telling me jokes, I'm laughing. So, we've got a good relationship going at the moment."

However, it is not the first time that the ITV2 show has been called out for appearing to fail in catering to a more diverse cast.

In 2019, Samira said that she was disappointed that Yewande was not picked by any of the male contestants during the first coupling ceremony - and said showmakers are failing to find contestants who desire more diversity when it comes to dating.

“I was obviously the token [black woman] on the show, it was easy to work that out. I only had to look at the line of girls when I arrived at the villa,” she told The Mail on Sunday at the time.

“There was nobody else who looked like me. ITV are desperate to be diverse, but that is coming across in a way that is quite unfortunate for them. Yewande is a token, too, it's obvious what is happening.”

A representative for ITV has been approached by The Mirror for comment.

Ahead of her debut to the show, several Love Island fans have already branded Kaz the fan favourite among the reality stars descending upon the villa.

Kaz is a fashion blogger and model with a huge online following already both on Instagram and TikTok. She has also already admitted that she was used to cruel online trolling but has learned to never take it personally.

Asked if her social media following gives her an advantage, Kaz told The Mirror and other press: "The reality is with social media, my audience might not even watch the show!

"The only thing I might be used to is receiving negative comments from loads of people at one time and just learning not to take it personally, just let people have their moment but shake it off, just be myself and be kind."
