Love Island fans fear Iain Stirling will leave next after wife Laura Whitmore quits show

Love Island fans think the show's voiceover star Iain Stirling will also quit the programme after his wife Laura Whitmore announced she was stepping down as host.

The Irish presenter revealed she won’t be back for the winter series of the ITV2 dating show, set to air in January and has decided to step down as host.

Releasing a surprise statement on Monday, the 37-year-old said she had found some of the elements of the show “difficult”.

And the mum-of-one – who has just landed an acting role in a West End show – said she wasn’t keen on flying back and forth from South Africa, where the winter show is filmed.

Now fans are convinced husband Iain, 34, will also “walk” after being the beloved Love Island voiceover star since the series rebooted in 2015.

Writing on Reddit, one fan said: “WTF is this off-season?!?!?! Also any update on Iain? Wasn’t it rumoured he’d walk if Laura walked?”

A second mused: “I reckon Iain would quit if she’d been fired but not if she left voluntarily on good terms. So I guess we’ll see what happens.”

Over on Twitter, it seemed some social media users were keen to see a shake-up of the presenting team after Laura’s shock exit.

Even before the latest series ended, one tweeted: “Laura ain’t it. She’s gotta go, Iain too if they’re a package deal.”

ITV need to change the Love Island host next year, but if they sack Laura I feel Iain would stick with his wife and want to leave too,” commented another.

A third suggested: “Just a thought: Ditch Laura AND Iain, replace them with Ekin Su and Davide?”

“No, I would like to see someone who isn’t famous host Love Island or they should just scrap it for good! Iain is deffo leaving soon #LoveIsland,” a fifth added.

But, other fans were excited for Iain to return with a new host as one wrote: "Can already hear the Iain Stirling #loveisland voiceover

Time for some drama, here’s Maya Jama".

Another praised: "iain stirling deserves $1billion dollars for the way he narrates love island HE IS HILARIOUS". [sic]

Laura took over presenting Love Island in 2020 following the shock suicide of previous host Caroline Flack.

She hosted the show for three seasons, but said now was the right time for her to move on.

The TV star announced her news on Instagram on Monday evening – just days after saying she was struggling with the backlash she faced from fans in the latest series.

She wrote: "Some news! I won’t be hosting the next series of Love island.

"There are certain elements of the show I’ve found very difficult that cannot be changed some due to the format, including the flying back and forth to South Africa along with my new conflicting projects.

"I wish it was still possible but know you’ll be in safe hands. I was only planning to fill in for Caroline for a series and it turned into 3 series.”

Ending with a tribute to her late predecessor, she added: "I hope I did you proud Caroline."
