Love Island fans devastated as return of show pushed back and winter series cancelled

Love Island has seen its return date pushed back by three weeks - while the winter series of the show is no more.

After taking a year off last summer due to Covid-19, fans are eagerly awaiting the return of the reality show, hosted by Bray native Laura Whitmore.

The show will take place in its usual location of Majorca, but the winter series, which took place in South Africa in 2020, will not be returning.

A TV source told MailOnline: "Crew members are scheduled to fly out to Majorca on June 20 – with the series expected to launch a week later.

"The delayed launch date will not have an impact on the length of the series, with the show still running for a duration of eight weeks.

"Winter Love Island on the other hand has been 'indefinitely postponed' as bosses put all their energies until the summer series."

There were concerns over whether Love Island would be able to go ahead at all this year, or perhaps it would need to be filmed in a UK location such as Cornwall.

As we told you earlier this week, producers are still eyeing up Jersey as an alternative location if travel to Majorca is impossible due to the coronavirus pandemic continuing to rage.

The most recent summer series of Love Island was won by Greg O'Shea (ITV)

A show insider said: "After what we've endured over the last year they are taking nothing for granted.

"Their motto is: hope for the best, plan for the worst. Every eventuality has been addressed and planned for - including a third wave. But the general feeling is that Majorca is a go," they added to The Sun.

Last year's winter edition was won by Finn Tapp and Paige Turley.

The most recent summer series was won by Limerick man Greg O'Shea and Amber Gill while it also made a superstar of Longford lass Maura Higgins.
