Love Island fans complain as show makes 'nonsense' change to iconic tag line

My type on paper, grafting and cracking on are just some of the phrases you repeatedly hear throughout Love Island.

It probably should come with its own dictionary.

But fans of the hit ITV2 dating show were left complaining at the end of Monday's night's series debut due to a huge change to one of its iconic tag lines.

Viewers know that each Islander has their own phone - unconnected to the outside world - but allows them to take photos and receive those all important texts.

From the very start of Love Island back in 2015, the short call, 'I got a text', became one of the most famous quotes from the series, often signalling some important news for the contestants and more drama for us watching at home.

The first of the series aired on Monday night ahead of Chloe Burrows arrival into the villa as the first bombshell.

Ahead of her appearance, she sent the boys a message as she asked them to join her for a date.

With the contestants gathered around the fire pit, Toby's phone buzzed and he revealed: "I've got a text you know... I've got a voice note."

"Hey boys, how are you? Chloe here, I've just arrived and I'm out the front of the villa. I'd like to take you all on a date, but I'll let you guys decide who wants to come and join me. Hopefully I'll see you soon," she said.

But fans were NOT happy about the new format.

"Bring back “I got a text” - not here for this voice note nonsense. Voice notes are for 5 minute rants, not bombshells. #LoveIsland," tweeted one.

Another raged: "'I've got a voice note' ?????? WTF IS THIS. WHERE’S THE 'i’ve got a text!!' #LoveIsland."

"Voice notes instead of texts ???? This feels blasphemous #loveisland," a third added.

A fourth complained: "Hold on a minute, we’ve been waiting for them to say ‘I’ve got a text’ and my guy comes out here saying he got a voice note."

"What is this voice note. I want TEXTS ! #LoveIsland," another added.

It wasn't the only thing that baffled viewers during the 2021 series debut.

As a new batch of singletons lined up to meet their matches, fans couldn't help noticing a new craze sweeping the TV villa.

And that just so happens to be the underboob top which has found its way into the ladies' suitcases.
