Love Island fans call for spiteful girls to be punished for 'bullying' Maura Higgins

Love Island fans have accused the show of airing "dangerous" bullying in the wake of last night's explosive episode.

Thursday's show focused on the arrival of new girls Maura Higgins and Elma Pazar - but their introduction to the villa was marred by jeering and taunting from some of the other Islanders.

Maura was left "feeling like s**t" when the girls - Anna Vakili, Molly-Mae Hague, Amber Gill and Yewande Biala - sent a volley of spiteful remarks raining down on her romantic meal with Danny Williams and Michael Griffiths.

Whenever she laughed, the girls gathered on the balcony upstairs mocked her giggle and could be heard mimicking her conversation.

The girls - who were drinking wine while watching the meal unfold down below - also jeered when Michael arrived at Maura's table with dessert, calling out his name and asking if he was enjoying himself.

Clearly trying to put a brave face on things, Maura spoon-fed Michael a piece of her banana with the words: "I'll give them something to talk about."

Hunky firefighter Michael was also taken aback by the girls' behaviour, pointing out that when Molly-Mae arrived at the villa last week, "nobody treated her like this".

Viewers were disgusted by the footage, with many fans calling for the producers to reprimand the girls for their "bullying" behaviour.

"What happened last night on #loveisland was bullying. The sort of playground female behaviour you'd see from kids not grown women. They should have been penalised for their behaviour as Maura was clearly made to feel intimidated. Jealous women are dangerous especially in groups," tweeted one.

"Horrible, childish, bullying behaviour. Whatever may have happened, Two wrongs don't make a right," said another.

A third wrote: "In itself that is bullying, shame on all of them...reprimand them for their actions."

Another said: "Molly-Mae and Anna are such a bad mix together. They’re bringing out each other’s nasty, school girl bullying persona and it’s utterly vile. Queens stan one another. Offering support and unconditional understanding."

And another tweeted: "Last night was shocking. It was verging along the lines of actual bullying. The girls involved should be given a warning, that is not okay or acceptable for adults to act like that."

Mirror Online has contacted ITV for comment.
