Love Island fans brand British public "racist" as show sees major couple change

As the first episode of Love Island aired on ITV last night viewers were left livid with the British public. The brand new gorgeous islanders were introduced to the viewers for the first time at the start of the episode.

However Love Island host Laura Whitmore told the Islanders about a new huge twist which had never been done before on the dating show. Laura told the unsuspecting islanders that for the first time ever, the public had decided who they would be coupling up with on day one.

The new twist has caused a huge debate on social media as Love Island viewers hit out at the British public and branded them as "racist." Laura confirmed that Ikenna Ekwonna and Indiyah Polack had been put together and Dami Hope had been paired with Amber Beckford reports The Mirror.

One person fumed and said: "Good old racist Britain. Pairing of the two black men with the two black women." Another shared: "I'm a bit behind on Love Island tonight but the coupling feels a tad racist."

Another fumed and said: "It feels racist that the public paired the black women and men together. Idk what ITV was thinking, nothing about this ‘twist’ was mildly interesting. Original way was better and more dramatic."

The show continued and viewers continued to hit out at the fact that islanders Andrew and Luca chose Paige, Gemma, and Tasha as their 'top three' girls. That meant they left out Amber and Indiyah.

"All three white women being touted as desirable. Amber and Indiyah don’t exist," one viewer tweeted. Another added: "What about Indiyah and Amber? They are stunning. The British public strikes again."

However some other viewers thought the pairings were 'perfect'. One viewer said: "I think both couples look so good together. It's nothing to do with race - they just look great together."

While another added: "I get why people are mad but they genuinely make good couples? Am I wrong? I don't see the issue."

Love Island continues tonight at 9PM on ITV2 and the ITV hub.
