Love Island fans blast ‘insane’ social distancing rules as stars can’t hug their families

On Sunday's instalment of Love Island the islanders were shocked to find out that their nearest and dearest were visiting the villa.

In emotional scenes, the stars were reunited with pals and family members and partners got to meet their new 'in-laws'.

However, the islanders and family members were not allowed to get close and hug due to social distancing rules put in place by bosses ahead of the visits.

It was to be expected, as in Spain social distancing guidelines state that 1.5 metres must be kept between people amid the Coronavirus pandemic.

However, fans were baffled by the visitors having to stay apart from the stars - who they will soon be reuninted with on the outside world when the show ends on Monday - and took to Twitter to share their opinions on the scenes.

One penned: "I cannot believe they can’t hug their families. This is insane!!!! #LoveIsland."

A second and third quizzed: "What is the reasoning for social distancing lol? Doesn’t make sense #LoveIsland ' and "How the hell are they social distancing from their families after 2 months."

Another echoed: "This social distancing s**t looks so stupid and unnatural #loveisland."

More joined in: "What’s the point in this social distancing? I swear they would all have been tested and quarantined before going into the villa anyways? #loveisland."

Another typed: "Can't hug relatives because of social distancing, what a load of shit. They're all going home tomorrow!"

It comes after the four remaining Love Island couples - Faye Winter and Teddy Soares, Kaz Kamwi and Tyler Cruickshank, Liam Reardon and Millie Court, Chloe Burrows and Toby Aromolaran - narrowly avoided a final dumping thanks to Liberty Poole and Jake Cornish quitting the show.

It's believed that one more couple would have been eliminated ahead of Monday night's grand finale of the 2021 series.

On Friday's episode Liberty told Jake that she would be leaving following their break-up, and he decided to follow in her footsteps.

That left just four couples living in the villa - the amount there usually is on the night of the final.

Chloe received a text on tonight's episode letting her and her fellow islanders know that one of the couples will be crowned winners.

The blonde read out: “Chloe & Toby, Faye & Teddy, Kaz & Tyler and Millie & Liam, Congratulations you’ve all reached the Love Island 2021 Final #finalfling #couplegoals."

*Love Island airs at 9pm on ITV2. Episodes are available the following morning on BritBox.
