Love Island fans astounded as Jess gives Ched a crash course in feminism

Love Island is many things to many people - but it rarely gets as political as tonight.

While most chats in the villa tend to focus on who's cracking on with who or who's head's been turned, tonight saw Jess Gale raise the topic of feminism with her flame Ched.

Kicking back on the sun loungers, Jess asked: "Are you a feminist, Ched?"

"Yeah!" Ched replied with certainty, "In jobs, women should get paid the same as men obviously."

Jess was happy to hear it, saying: "Being a feminist doesn't mean you've got to be some raging, radical feminist.

"Like not, 'I want women to have more rights than men.' Do you believe that men and women should have equal rights to men?"

"Yeah," said Ched, "It's important to remember that before, women weren't even allowed to work."

Jess chimed in: "Yeah, or vote."

Later Ched added: "It would be weird to see a female scaffolder though, wouldn't it?"

It clearly impressed Jess, as she revealed in the Beach Hut: "With Ched, I just enjoy being around him.

"We've had so many good conversations, he's so level-headed and switched on. I'm really enjoying his company."

It's not the first topical chat the show has ever seen - fans can't forget Hayley Hughes ' Brexit insight back in 2018.

When Brexit was raised, Hayley questioned what it was, and when told it "would mean like welfare, and like things we trade with would be cut down," Hayley gave the response of the century.

"So does that mean we won't have any more trees?" she asked, leaving her fellow islanders scratching their heads.

She also seemed to come down on the side of Remain after being told it would make it harder for her to go to Spain for her holidays.

"But I love my holidays!" she lamented.

She's since appeared on telly with Nigel Farage, and quizzed the Brexit Party leader about the pros and cons of leaving the EU.
