Love Island hopeful Sherif Lanre admits he already ‘knows’ fellow contestant Anna Vakili as the new cohort of singletons couple up for the very first time.
Tonight’s opening episode of the ITV2 dating show sees five girls and five boys arrive at the show’s luxury Majorcan villa in the hope of finding someone who is 100 per cent their type on paper.
As the islanders begin to get to know each other, the former rugby pro realises that he recognises Anna, who has been dubbed the ‘British Kim Kardashian’ - because he already follows her on Instagram.
Anna is left shocked as Sherif makes his big confession after the first coupling, telling her: “Genuinely. I wasn’t going to say out there!”
Reflecting on the potentially awkward encounter in the Beach Hut later in the episode, the Instagram star says that she was “flattered” but “didn’t expect” that her fellow islanders would be aware of her social media presence.
“He just brought it out so casually. Like ‘Yeah I follow you on Instagram,’” she says.
“I was flattered but I didn’t expect it coming in here, that someone would follow me on Instagram.
“When I do go out, I do tend to get that a lot.”
The anticipated first episode of series five also sees scientist Yewande bond with firefighter Michael, as they learn that they both studied sciences at university.
Meanwhile surfer Lucie proves a hit among the boys, with two islanders left vying for her affections.
In a shake-up to the usual format, two further boys arrive at the villa later in the episode following the first coupling ceremony, leaving the girls questioning their decisions.
