Love Island could face Ofcom investigation after sparking hundreds of complaints

Popular reality show Love Island could be subjected to an Ofcom investigation after the watchdog was bombarded with complaints.

Ofcom confirmed it received 797 complaints since Friday about the ITV2 show on two particular issues.

Most of these focus on new Islander Maura Higgins' attempted advances towards Tommy Fury.

In Friday's episode, Maura tried to get a kiss from Tommy but the 20-year-old politely turned her down in an incident which attracted 486 complaints.

Ofcom received a further 302 complaints following the treatment of Lucie Donlan.

The 22-year-old has not proven popular among her fellow Islanders who have deemed her distant and more interested in spending time with the boys than girls.

Love interest Joe Garrett pulled her to one side on Sunday night's episode after she was spotted mucking about with Tommy Fury - who she was originally in a love triangle with.

Joe insisted Lucie should be "respecting the one she was with" despite her protestations nothing was happening with the pro boxer.

An Ofcom spokeswoman said: "We will assess these complaints against our broadcasting rules, but are yet to decide whether or not to investigate."
