Love Island contestant spills the beans on rule which means couplings can happen off-screen

A Love Island winner has revealed some bombshell news that could change how fans think about the hit TV show.

Kem Cetinay, the 2018 winner, returned to This Morning where he revealed how the Islanders could use their days off to escape the villa and get to know each other far from the beady eyes of viewers at home, the Mirror reports .

Written into every Islander's contract is the rule that they will always have Fridays off - which is why Saturday's show is always made up of old clips from episodes throughout the previous few days.

And the Love Island cast are even allowed to leave the villa and stretch their legs outside.

"Twitter was going mad because there was no Love Island on Saturday, so of course I know why," Kem told Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby on today's show.

"When you're in there, they give you one day off, so you get one day a week - it gives them a day to clean the whole villa, you take your mics off and normally we go to the beach and we just chill out. Not a lot of people know this."

"What, are you joking?" Holly squealed.

The Islanders have their say on the Joe/Lucie/Tommy love triangle

An aghast Phil added: "Sorry what, so couples could happen on the beach?"

Kem added: "So what happens is when you take the microphone off you're not allowed to talk about anything to do with the show or the couples, you have to talk about home life. And you're being watched by an eagle hawk, by the producers, because they don't want you to talk about what's going on."

"Can you sit with someone you like who you're maybe not with in the show?" asked Phil.

"You can all sit and chat but they are careful with what you talk about because they want to keep it so everyone at home can see, and get it on video," Kem revealed.

"But at the same time it's their day to clean the villa, get everything done and give you the day off, and your time to relax and not be so intensely in all the chat."

*This Morning airs weekdays at 10.30am on ITV. Love Island continues tonight at 9pm on ITV2
