Love Island cancellation news leaves Glasgow fans gutted

Glasgow fans of Love Island have been left gutted after it was announced that this year's edition of the hit reality show has been cancelled.

ITV confirmed the "sad" news this morning that the 7th series will no longer go ahead as a result of the coronavirus pandemic, vowing to come back "stronger than ever" in 2021.

Kevin Lygo, Director of Television at ITV, said: "We have tried every which way to make Love Island this summer but logistically it's just not possible to produce it in a way that safeguards the wellbeing of everyone involved and that for us is the priority.

"In normal circumstances we would be preparing very soon to travel out to the location in Mallorca to get the villa ready but clearly that’s now out of the question.

"We are very sorry for fans of the show but making it safely is our prime concern and Love Island will be back stronger than ever in 2021. In the meantime Love Island fans can still enjoy all six series of Love Island on BritBox."

And Glasgow fans have taken to Twitter to air their disappointment at the news:

One person wrote: "Absolutely gutted love island is cancelled, while another tweeted: "8pm tonight clap for Love Island been cancelled".

While another fan wrote: "As if this year wasn’t bad enough already now there won’t be a summer".

Glasgow shop worker - and Lewis Capaldi's ex - Paige Turley won the winter edition of Love Island last time around alongside beau Finley Tapp.

While Airdrie gym worker Anton Danyluk set hearts aflutter with his washboard abs after while appearing in the show in 2019.
