Love Island bosses 'launching new winter series The Cabins' in 2021

Love Island bosses are reportedly set to launch a new winter show called The Cabins at the start of the new year.

It comes after ITV bosses confirmed the summer 2020 series of Love Island wouldn't air due to the coronavirus pandemic.

But now lockdown restrictions have eased slightly, it appears show executives are determined to film another series before the end of the year, which will air in 2021.

However, the rumoured new show is set to have a huge twist to the original version, which is based in a sunny villa in Mallorca.

The new winter show will be filmed in cabins, it's claimed, where singletons will ditch technology to be hitched up together in the middle of the UK.

A source told The Sun : "Bosses are going back to basics with The Cabins.

"Set away from the distractions of modern life, two singletons will have to spend time together and properly get to know each other without a profile on a dating app.

"After 24 hours together they will be able to decide whether they stay together for a bit longer, or move on to someone new."

The source revealed that if the singletons remain as a couple for "up to four days" then they will give other singles the chance to enter the cabin in a major shake-up.

It gives the new group of singletons the chance to "potentially meet their Mr or Miss Right".

According to the source, filming will start in the next few months and the show is casting now, ready to air in the new year.

The brand new spin-off show will fill the gap left by winter Love Island, where Paige Turley and Finn Tapp stole the nation's hearts and won the show.

ITV confirmed the summer series will not return until 2021 due to Covid-19.

Kevin Lygo, Director of Television at ITV, said at the time: "We have tried every which way to make Love Island this summer but logistically it's just not possible to produce it in a way that safeguards the wellbeing of everyone involved and that for us is the priority.

"In normal circumstances we would be preparing very soon to travel out to the location in Mallorca to get the villa ready but clearly that’s now out of the question.

"We are very sorry for fans of the show but making it safely is our prime concern and Love Island will be back stronger than ever in 2021. In the meantime Love Island fans can still enjoy all six series of Love Island on BritBox."
