Love Island bosses confirm start date for the new series of ITV2 show

Love Island will be back on our screens very, very soon.

ITV bosses have confirmed that the eighth series of the hit ITV2 show will be premiering on Monday June 6.

A message from the show's official Twitter account read: "Here's your first hot date of the summer #LoveIsland is back Monday 6th June on @itv2 and @itvhub!"

That means we're just days away from meeting the latest batch of love-seeking singletons and wannabe influencers.

"This announces the start of summer," one happy fan replied to the show's tweet on Tuesday, with another adding: "I am SO ready for this!!! Ready for my annual summer of love!!!"

The trailer for the 2022 edition was teased on Britain's Got Talent last week and poked fun at rival shows Too Hot To Handle and Live Is Blind.

"224 islanders have slo-mo walked through the famous Love Island villas doors, but don't take it from me our bromances, babies and brides can tell you why we are number one", said voiceover man Iain Stirling.

"This summer love isn’t blind, it’s neon and we can defo handle the heat. We’ve got a fire pit mate. Love we own it".

No official word from ITV or Love Island regarding who will make up this year's line up, but it has been rumoured Michael Owen's daughter Gemma could be entering the famous villa at some point this summer.

Another rumoured contestant is former WAG Sophie Draper.

The 22-year-old beautician from Nottingham used to date Premiership football player, Matty Cash, and has been tipped to appear on the show since splitting from the sports star last year.

Ronan Keating recently stalled when asked whether his daughter would be joining the Love Island cast this summer.

There has been speculation that Missy, who he shares with ex-wife Yvonne Connolly, will be putting on a swimsuit and enjoying the sunshine in the famous villa.

During his appearance on Good Morning Britain last week, Ronan, 45, kept it extremely vague on whether the rumours are true or not.

Whoever appears on the show next month, they'll be entering a brand new villa!

The new villa looks much more rustic than the old one, which featured a large glass entrance, but it seems that it’s finally taking shape as workers have been busy getting the building ready for the show's launch on June 6.

It looks like the new work could see some classic Love Island elements added to the villa, with pictures showing the construction of a modern terrace has begun.

In addition to a new setting, Love Island bosses also recently announced that they’ll be ditching fast fashion for the eighth series in a bid to be more eco-friendly.

Previously, the long-running reality TV show has partnered with the likes of Missguided and I Saw It First, but the show has been criticised for promoting fast-fashion brands, which have a harmful impact on the environment.

However, this year the show is partnering with eBay this year to provide the singletons with a shared wardrobe of pre-loved clothing.
