Love Island bosses banned popular food to 'send a message' - but it massively backfired

Not everything that happens in the Love Island villa ends up on TV, including the famously private meal times.

Every day, the Islanders are served lunch and dinner from a secret kitchen tucked away around the back of the villa. Adding to the mystery, they eat in single sex groups to prevent any off-camera flirting while their mic packs are charging.

Series 6 Islander Connagh Howard previously revealed: "The only thing I thought was a bit weird was that at dinner time the boys and girls were separated."

What's more, he said producers keep a close eye on how much the Islanders are eating in a bid to ensure they stay healthy.

Who do you think should be dumped from the island tonight? Have your say in the comments section below.

"We do have to be monitored on what we eat just to make sure that everyone in the house is eating sufficient amounts," he told Grazia.

"So nobody is going to get ill. Lunch and dinner were not shown because we had to eat certain amounts."

Past Islanders have revealed how treats are delivered to order through a 'cat flap', and that the fridge is stocked with whatever goodies the stars request.

They're even allowed to order in McDonalds, and the villa's head chef Ferenc says the group love everything they're offered, especially his burgers and ribs.

"We do lunch and dinner for the, every single day," he said in a video for Reddit.

"They always eat the food, but they really like the burger and the ribs as well.

"We always get feedback from the contestants and production, every single day."

However, last year a new rule was implemented, banning one food group for the Islanders in a bid to make a statement. And according to Ferenc, they didn't take it well.

"Monday we just do vegetarian and vegan food, so lots of options,” he shared.

"Every week, every single week.

"We started this last year - and last year the people weren't really happy with that - but this year they are.

"It's just one day, one day without meat. It's a message for the people - you don't need to eat meat every single day."

It comes as dumped Islander Coco Lodge opened up about the catering, confirming that the boys are separated from the girls.

“We eat catering off camera separated to save the chat," she explained.

And she also said that what you don't see is the amount of snacking that goes on.

"We love to snack," Coco added. “3am toasties every night.”
