Love Island begins casting for new series amid hopes show will return in 2021

Love Island bosses have begun the casting process for the next series of the hit dating show sparking rumours it could return in 2021.

ITV2's casting agents have started inviting potential stars to apply for the show's new season.

The reality show has been off air since its first winter edition in South Africa in February.

It was due to become a twice-yearly hit, but the coronavirus pandemic put a stop to the broadcaster's grand plans.

But now the show's casting website has sprung to life, inviting single wannabes to apply for the show.

A January return is off the table but the seventh series could be lined up for this summer with a return to the villa in Majorca.

The show's list of requirements stipulates just four conditions: applicants must be 18 or over, have no family links to ITV or the Love Island producers, hold a passport, and be free for eight weeks to film the show.

Love Island hopefuls are then asked to upload a short video - with strictly no filter - explaining why they would make a great Islander.

Applicants also have to include headshot and full-length photos of themselves.

Casting agents then ask for information on applicants' jobs, genders and sexual orientation.

But reality hopefuls will have to ensure their application really stands out after it was revealed only six stars were recruited through the application process for the 2019 series, with the rest being put forward to producers by agents.

ITV chief exec Carolyn McCall previously explained: "Twenty-four were found and cast by the programme's casting team and six were put forward by professional agents."
