Love Island application process exposed - shocking reality of how people actually get on show

Love Island might be over, but thousands of hopeful singletons are already applying for the next series.

But it looks like they probably should have either found themselves agents or become serious 'social media influencers' before sending in that application form.

A DCMS Committee report into reality TV has revealed how the Love Island cast was really assembled this year.

It was found that only 16 per cent of this year's 36 Islanders were chosen through the general application process - through which 85,000 people applied.

Meanwhile a whopping 83 per cent were either found and cast by the programme's casting team or put forward by professional agents.

The report said: "On series 5 of Love Island to date (15 July), there have been 36 contributors.

"24 were found and cast by the programme's casting team, six were put forward by professional agents, and six came through the general application."

Mirror Online has ITV for comment.

On Monday, a record 3.6million watched Amber Gill and Greg O'Shea crowned this year's Love Island champions.

The couple stormed to victory and beat favourites Molly-Mae Hague and Tommy Fury.

The final was the most-watched episode of the entire series, which has been a huge ratings triumph for ITV2 following explosive rows, snakey tactics and the biggest Casa Amor fallout ever.

Amber and Greg decided to split their £50,000 prize money between them after being asked whether they wanted to share or stick.

Despite entering just two weeks before the final, Greg won over viewers by helping Amber "smile again" after being brutally dumped by Michael Griffiths.

The couple look set to rake in a number of lucrative deals and endorsements following their shock win.

Next year, Love Island will be airing twice after proving to be such a huge ratings hit, with a winter version airing in South Africa in January 2020.
