Love Island Amber's mam has her say on Michael and whether he'll be welcome at home in Gateshead

Love Island viewers are a fickle bunch. Last week Geordie girl Amber Gill was getting a lot of stick on social media but now the tide has definitely turned, thanks to her straight talking attitude and blossoming romance with Michael Griffiths.

And now Amber's mam, Vanessa Waugh, has had her say on the Scouse firefighter who has stolen millions of viewers' hearts and maybe even her daughter's.

After having zero chemistry with original Island love interest Callum, 21-year-old beauty therapist Amber re-coupled with Anton on a friendship basis but this week, Love Island fans have been backing her growing flirtation with Michael.

And, crucially he gets Vanessa's seal of approval. "Like everyone else, I absolutely love Michael," she told Chronicle Live.

"He seems like a really, really lovely guy and the most genuine in there. And I think that's why he's been drawn to Amber. "She doesn't fake things and I think it's been great to see them start something slowly and let it build naturally, rather than rush into it and be full on from the start.

"I think Michael really gets Amber, they seem to have developed a real bond. I will say though, we were all screaming at the TV when she didn't kiss him when he first went for it!"

Amber and Michael's romance looked like it might have come to an abrupt end on Thursday night's Love Island, when the arrival of sharp shooting new girl Maura Higgins, , after she sat down to a meal with him.

Thankfully, by the end of the hour long episode, it looked like the pair, who still aren't an official couple in the villa, had weathered the storm.

And, while it's still early days, Vanessa says she'd love Amber to bring Michael home to Whickham.

"He'd definitely be welcome here 100%.

"Obviously, it's Love Island we're talking about here and we have no clue what's coming next, but I'd love them to stay together.

"I feel like a lot of people watching the show are loving them together and I think they're a really good match."
