Love Island Amber Gill's savage 'dead ting' insult explained

Geordie lass Amber Gill was so upset on Love Island after Michael Griffiths dumped her for Joanna Chimonides she branded the newcomer a "dead ting".

With high hopes of reuniting with the firefighter after she came back from Casa Amor alone, Amber was met with the sight of Michael stood with another woman, reports the Mirror.

Lashing out, Amber said to her pals: "Honestly I'm glad. I'm glad. Dead ting."

She was seemingly talking about Michael at this point, but later appeared to direct the comment at Joanna.

When asked if she felt "at home" now she was back in the main villa, Maura said it probably felt different for her given the circumstances.

Amber said: "I'll be fine. 100%. But like, she's a dead ting so it's like, coming out and what am I supposed to be? Upset?"

But what does dead ting actually mean?

According to Urban Dictionary, it's a particularly savage insult that means "a person who is a boring c*** and is extremely dull".

However, other definitions of the word suggest it means "ugly".

While many viewers were confused by what the phrase actually means, with some believing it was Geordie slang, those who understood it couldn't believe she said it.

Former Islander Tyne-Lexy Clarson said on  Twitter: "FYI Joanna definitely isn’t a “dead ting” amber. Yojr attitude is a DEAD TING."

One fan asked: "We’re really ignoring Amber calling her a dead ting a good couple times? Which part of that is maturity?"

Another said: "If someone call me a dead ting having never even spoken to me I'd drown them in the pool"

Joanna wasn't happy about being targeted with the insult and told the others how she felt.

Her pals agreed with her that it wasn't on.

At the end of last night's show, Amber and Joanna were sent out of the villa together for a "catch up". We'll find out what happened on tonight's show.

Love Island airs at 9pm on ITV2
