Love Island almost signed HRVY after he asked if he could apply as a contestant

Love Island almost landed a celebrity contestant this year as Strictly Come Dancing star HRVY asked if he could join the cast.

The 22-year-old singer, who is currently single, has revealed he had a conversation with bosses at ITV over whether they would allow him to go into the villa to look for love.

HRVY explained he really wants to find a girlfriend and hoped the ITV2 would be ja good way for him to meet his perfect match.

He went on to reveal telly chiefs didn't turn him down but it doesn't look like he managed to snag a place in the cast.

"I had an interview with the ITV bosses about other stuff and I was like, ‘So realistically, can I go on Love Island?'" the singer told the Capital Evening Show with Jimmy Hill.

“And they were like, ‘I mean, if you wanted to.’"

“Do you know what, part of me think[s] I would, like, I would love to."

HRVY, whose real name is Harvey Cantwell, said he's been watching the show for the last few years, as well as Ex On The Beach and said "it looks so much fun."

He added: “It looks like so much drama but it looks like a proper whirlwind of an experience...

"I’m looking for someone so I’d actually love to,” he revealed.

HRVY's no stranger to reality shows, having performed on last year's Strictly Come Dancing with his dancing partner Janette Manrara.

HRVY was previously on Strictly Come Dancing (BBC / Guy Levy)

The pair were incredibly popular, and came runners-up to Bill Bailey and Oti Mabuse who were crowned winners.

Speaking to The Daily Star after he finished on Strictly, he was praising Janette and gushed about his experience.

"Thanks for teaching me to dance, thanks for making me smile every day," he said.

“And thanks for something I’ll remember for the rest of my life.”

During his time on Strictly, there were rumours that HRVY was dating fellow contestant Maisie Smith, who plays Tiffany Butcher on EastEnders, but the singer recently revealed there was nothing between them.

"Nothing happened. It was funny to watch everyone talk about it. Sometimes we were like, 'Shall we play up to it?' We are really good friends and still speak,” he told The Sun.

Love Island kicks off next week on June 28 on ITV2. A sneak peek of the new contestants has dropped in this opener video if you can't wait until then.
