Love Island 2021 start date finally confirmed and it's just days away

Love Island 2021's start date has finally been confirmed — and it's returning to our screens very soon.

The series will air on June 28, just under two weeks away.

The news was confirmed on Wednesday's episode of This Morning by Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield.

In the style of the show, they received a text confirming the news, which read: "Love Island is back! Monday 28th June 9pm, ITV2 and ITV Hub."

It finished with the hashtags #ThisIsNotADrill and #CrackOn.

Holly said: "This is exciting isn't it? Brilliant!"

The duo then received another text about this year's Love Island merch, which has had an update.

The old bottles were clear plastic with the Islanders' names on, and for 2021 they have a white matte finish, but still personalised.

Phil also tried on the new pink satin Love Island dressing gown, which Holly compared to a "smoking jacket".

There are also white personalised suitcases on sale, which the contestants will be bringing to the villa.

Love Island hasn't been on air since the first ever winter series aired in early 2020.

The summer series was cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic and restrictions on travel, and Love Island didn't return for a winter series this year.

This year the show will once again be hosted by Laura Whitmore and narrated by Ian Stirling.

The duo are a real-life married couple, and recently welcomed their first child, a baby girl.

It comes after it was reported that the new Love Island contestants are already in quarantine before filming begins.

The producers are said to be deciding who will be part of the original cast and who will be entering as bombshells or in Casa Amor.

The new series will also reportedly feature its first ever disabled contestant after producers reached out to influencers with disabilities to take part.

Love Island had a record number of applications this year and show bosses have already interviewed more than a 1,000 wannabes ahead of the new series.

Bosses have confirmed how they will carry out of their duty of care to the contestants.

There will be psychological support on-hand, as well as training on how to deal with social media abuse.

Islanders will also receive financial training and be given full after care when they leave the show.
