Love Island 2021 start date and new merch confirmed with just days to go

The start date for Love Island 2021 has finally been confirmed, and it’s sooner than you may have expected.

The series will air just under two weeks from now on June 28.

The news was confirmed by Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield on Wednesday’s episode of This Morning.

In true Love Island style, the popular presenting duo received a text confirming the news, which read: “Love Island is back! Monday 28th June 9pm, ITV2 and ITV Hub."

It finished with the hashtags #ThisIsNotADrill and #CrackOn.

Holly said: "This is exciting isn't it? Brilliant!"

The pair then received a follow-up text, revealing this year’s updated Love Island merch.

The old bottles were clear plastic with the Islander’s names on, and for 2021 they’ll still be personalised, but will instead have a white matte finish.

Love Island hasn’t been on our screens since the first ever winter series in early 2020. The show’s summer series was cancelled as a result of the coronavirus travel restrictions, with a winter series not returning this year.

It’s been reported that the show’s new contestants are already in quarantine in Spain before filming begins, with this series of Love Island being described as the “best series yet.”

The newest series will reportedly feature its first disabled contestant, after producers called for influencers with disabilities to apply for the show.

Love Island had a record number of applications this year with show bosses revealing they’ve already interviewed more than 1,000 hopefuls ahead of the latest series.

Bosses have confirmed how they will carry out of their duty of care to the contestants.

There will be psychological support on-hand, as well as training on how to deal with social media abuse.
