Love Island 2021 could be filmed in Jersey amid Covid travel uncertainty

Love Island could be filmed in Jersey this summer if the show cannot be staged in Spain as planned.

Producers are hoping the 2021 series will again see contestants enjoying the sunshine of Majorca.

But they have had to pick a back-up location because Covid travel restrictions mean it may be too complicated for cast and crew to jet abroad.

A show insider told the Mirror : "The Channel Islands get plenty of sunshine so it makes sense to hold Love Island there if we can't get back to Spain.

“Either way we're going to put out a belting series. Viewers have missed Love Island for the whole of 2020 and they're desperate to have it back.

"They're going to love what we do, wherever we do it.”

Jersey, which sits 14 miles off the coast of Normandy, averages 250 hours of sunshine in June and July.

Majorca typically has up to 350 hours of sunshine in early summer, with average highs of around 26 degrees.

Last year both the summer and winter versions of Love Island were cancelled because of the pandemic.

Narrator Iain Stirling believes the UK could be a good alternative following the success of last year's I'm A Celebrity, which was filmed in North Wales.

He said last month: "I genuinely thought I’m A Celeb was so brilliant last year, it’s an option. When they can’t eat their dinner because seagulls are taking it off the plate – it could mix it up."

A final decision is expected to be made "within days".
