Love Island 2021 confirmed as back up location 'secured' by ITV

After coronavirus threw a huge spanner in the works last year, Love Island WILL happen this year, with ITV bosses securing a back up location.

The global pandemic meant that the only Love Island series UK viewers got last year was the new winner edition, won by Paige and Finn in South Africa.

Despite rumours being floated of a UK-based series taking its place, lockdowns and the tier system put pay to that ever happening but the ratings winning show will be back for 2021, even if it can't take place in its usual home of a villa in Majorca.

As Love Island Australia gives fans their fix for now, ITV are said to have secured Jersey as a second choice according to The Mirror..

An insider said: "The Channel Islands get plenty of sunshine so it makes sense to hold Love Island there if we can't get back to Spain,” one insider said.

“Either way we're going to put out a belting series. Viewers have missed Love Island for the whole of 2020 and they're desperate to have it back. They're going to love what we do, wherever we do it.”

Applications for this year are said to be sky-high, with more potential contestants than ever before.

After starting life as celebrity show in the mid-00s, featuring the likes of Jayne Middlemiss and Calum Best, Love Island made a triumphant return to screens in 2015.

Since then it has proved to be a huge success for itv2 as millions tune in every night to see the latest goings on from the villa, including dramatic dumpings, tense recouplings and of course Casa Amor.
