Love Island 2019 final pulled in 653,000 viewers for Virgin Media Ireland

A massive 653,000 people tuned in worldwide to watch the final episode of Love Island on Monday night after airing for eight weeks.

On average, 372,000 people watched the highly anticipated final, won by Limerick lad Greg O’Shea and Amber Gill, on Virgin Media Two.

The average viewership of the fifth live series finale doubled on Virgin Media Two in comparison to last year.

Overall, the series proved to be a hit online with total live and catch-up streams currently tracking at 13 million.

In the UK, the show, hosted by Caroline Flack, drew an audience of more than six million - nearly a tenth of the UK’s population.

Celebrities such as Adele, Amy Schumer and rap sensation Stormzy were obsessed with the show and tuned in every week.

The reality show has had its biggest success to date with the franchise spurring copycat programmes in America, Australia, Germany and Sweden.

And wrapping up the finale on Monday night, Caroline Flack revealed ITV will now have two series of the show for 2020.

Contestants will be flown to Cape town in South Africa for a winter series while it’s expected the summer series will see love hopefuls return to the famous Majorca villa.
