Love Island viewers were perplexed after Wednesday night’s episode revealed the intricacies of contestant Dani Dyer’s beauty regime, which involves blowdrying her eyelashes and grooming them with a mascara wand.
The 22-year-old’s unconventional beauty hack sparked a flurry of commentary on social media, with some users poking fun at the bartender, describing her as “extra” and “high maintenance” while others were just utterly baffled.
“I’m confused, why is Dani drying her eyelashes?” asked one viewer on Twitter.
"Omg I've seen it all now," added another.
So, is there a legitimate explanation behind Dyer’s niche grooming methods?
According to lash experts, the curious case of Dani Dyer the eyelash dryer can be explained by the simple fact that she probably has eyelash extensions.
Frequent exposure to water can be detrimental to the appearance of false lashes, so you’re advised to comb and dry them afterwards as a part of the aftercare process.
Using a hairdryer on a low heat is a way to speed up the drying process and it could also help maintain the lashes’ curl.
Had Dyer decided to take disposable fake lashes into the Love Island villa, the hairdryer could also be used as a means of setting the glue used to apply them.
“It’s actually a clever idea,” explains celebrity makeup artist Phoebe Taylor.
“It will speed up the drying process of the lash glue and your lashes will feel much more secure,” she tells The Independent.
However, beauty blogger and founder of London salon Blush + Blow Bridget O’Keeffe explains that it’s crucial to ensure you keep heat levels to a minimum so as to avoid any skin damage:
“Using cool air is fine, but because the eye area is super sensitive you need to be aware that heat would not only mess with the glue that is used for the lashes but also damage the delicate skin around the eye area,” she tells The Independent.
“We recommend allowing them to dry naturally and using a clean mascara wand to groom and coax them back in line.”
