Love Hurts is a collection of short love stories, written by a whole variety of authors including Malorie Blackman, Gayle Forman, E. Lockhart, Patrick Ness and Non Pratt. Totally predictable and cringe-worthy, I know what you're thinking. But actually, this collection explores love from every angle and is unexpectedly unique and engaging.
Although most of the stories in the collection are extracted from separate books, there are also some written especially, and in short, there is something for everyone. Love Hurts looks at love, past and present, euphoric and devastating, in all shapes and sizes and fills you with the raw emotions which are bound to follow. The best thing about short stories is that you can change what you are reading to fit your mood.
Of course, it wouldn't be fair for me to tell you that this is a great compilation for non-romantics, since well, it's not. But this truly is an original and awe-inspiring take on some of love's greatest feats, and most of the stories were beautifully positioned and amazingly told. This is ultimately, the perfect collection of love stories for teenagers, as it is contemporary and modern through and through, whilst still maintaining the classic elements of a good, romantic read.
Overall, I thought Love Hurts was enjoyable and emotional. Whilst it could not be named as one of my most life-changing or memorable reads, it was a comprehensive and beautiful collective of all the forms of love in the world.
