Love dogs? Edinburgh University is teaching a course that will make you a real-life Dr Dolittle

We've all dreamt of having Dr. Dolittle-esque skills and being able to ask your pet what's going on with them - although this still isn't quite a reality yet, Edinburgh University are offering a five-week online course that promises to get you as close to the real thing as possible.

What is your cat revealing to you when she purrs? What is your dog expressing when he yawns or wags his tail?

Well you're in luck, the University of Edinburgh is teaching an online course that will teach you just that - making you an even better pet-owner.

The university's MOOC (Massive Open Online Course) called 'The Truth About Cats and Dogs' is divided into five topics: the appliance of science; behaviour and body language, senses and perception; challenges for the human-animal relationship, including pet problem behaviour; and how to improve the quality of life for cats and dogs in our care.

A whopping 21,312 animal-loving people have already enrolled in the course which is taught in English, Chinese, Greek, Spanish and Japanese.

The course is taught over five weeks online and has got a rating of 4.7/5 after 206 reviews - with one user writing "I think this course should be a requirement for anyone thinking of adopting a pet."
