Love 'Bloons' and 'Plants vs. Zombies?' Here Are Other Tower Defense Games to Try

Tower defense games might not be everyone's cup of tea, but for those who enjoy it, they can spend hours and hours doing their best to defend their bases. "Bloons TD 6" and "Plants vs. Zombies" are arguably two of the most popular games that introduced tower defense for even more players.

For those looking for a new tower defense game to play or are trying to dip their toes into the genre, here are other examples worth checking out.

'Dome Keeper'

"Dome Keeper" is a roguelike action-mining game developed by German studio Bippinbits and published by Raw Fury.

In this game, players dig underground to gather resources while defending a glass dome from waves of alien creatures, alternating between mining expeditions and tower-defense-style combat to survive and eventually uncover an ancient relic. The game was released on September 27, 2022.

The game was initially released on PC (Windows, macOS, and Linux) via Steam, and an Xbox Series X|S version followed on December 9, 2025. A Nintendo Switch version is reportedly planned as well, though it had not launched as of writing.

'Kingdom Two Crowns'

"Kingdom Two Crowns" is a 2D side-scrolling strategy and resource management game and is the third entry in the "Kingdom" series. The game was released on April 28, 2020.

In this game, players control a mounted monarch who recruits villagers, builds defenses like walls and towers, and works to expand and protect their kingdom from a race of monsters called the Greed that attack each night.

The game is currently available on Windows, macOS, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, iOS, and Android.

'Sir, We Have an Orc Problem'

"Sir, We Have an Orc Problem" is an incremental-style tower defense game developed by Mumpitz Games, in which players build and upgrade an arsenal of turrets, artillery, and orbital lasers to hold off tens of thousands of physics-simulated orcs charging their base.

The game blends tower defense, incremental progression, and roguelite elements, tasking players with defending against an overwhelming horde using ever more powerful bullets, bombs, and lasers.

Resources earned from every run, whether won or lost, are used to unlock and upgrade turrets, with each upgrade bringing players closer to defeating the horde. The game launched on July 28, 2026, and quickly earned a "Very Positive" reception from players.

The game is currently available on PC via Steam, with support for both Windows and Linux.

'Thronefall'

"Thronefall" is a strategy game that combines base-building and tower-defense mechanics as players grow their kingdom by day and defend it from enemy attacks by night, balancing economic development with military strength.

An early access version was released for Microsoft Windows on August 2, 2023, with the full version releasing for Windows and Nintendo Switch on October 11, 2024.

'Tower Dominion'

"Tower Dominion" is a roguelike tower defense game developed by Parallel 45 Games, in which players take on the role of a commander defending their empire's HQ against waves of alien invaders known as Artronids.

The game emphasizes battlefield customization, as players determine where enemies will come from by placing new terrain tiles every two waves, choosing from pathways, natural obstacles, or enemy entry points, which can be rerolled using a limited strategic resource called Recon. Tower Dominion was released on May 8th, 2025.
