Ammy writes from experience

Love is an inspiration for many songwriters. Singer/songwriter Chaiamorn Kaewwiboonpan (Ammy), known as Ammy The Bottom Blues, has written many songs about his relationships including his latest, “Tor Laew (Mature).” The song is about trying to do everything to make a girlfriend stay with him, but she asks him to be mature and let her go.

S Weekly met up with the 29-year-old who told us about his songwriting.

Why did it take you so long to release this single?

Ammy: I had a problem with a relationship. I was depressed, didn’t want to do anything and couldn’t concentrate on work. It wasn’t the first time that this happened to me. I had to take a break.

How did you solve the problem?

Ammy: My music team gave me great support. They encouraged me when I felt down until I realised that I shouldn’t give up. I had to do my job.

Have you become mature?

Ammy: Not really. I’m always like a child when it comes to love, but I’m more responsible than before.

When did you start writing songs?

Ammy: I wrote my first song when I was 12 years old. I was mad because I got kicked out of a band. I formed another band and wrote a song to show my anger to my former bandmates [Laughs].

What inspires you to write songs?

Ammy: Relationships. I don’t have a lot of relationships, but I can write many songs from several angles from one relationship. I also get inspiration from other people and movies.

Is it true that you write English-language songs?

Ammy: Yes. When I get writer’s block for Thai lyrics, I switch to English. The language doesn’t have different intonation like Thai, so it’s easier to create a melody. I’ve sold my English songs in the US, UK and South Korea.
