Louth woman launches home fitness business from her garage in Australia

An Irish woman is taking the fitness world by storm – from her garage in Australia.

And if keeping Aussies on their toes during lockdown wasn’t enough, Maeve Kavanagh has also launched a range of healthy recipe e-books.

The 29-year-old, from Drogheda in Co Louth, saw an opportunity when coronavirus shut gyms and the world switched online to stay in shape.

Now Maeve and her Pretty Princess Fitness enterprise has been blown away by the number of clients who’ve signed up.

She revealed yesterday how she was catapulted into her new career as she struggled to find work with two months remaining on her visa - and turned her fitness hobby into a fully-functioning business.

Based in Perth, western Australia, since 2017, Maeve told the Irish Mirror: “I think when people couldn’t go to the gym, they no longer knew what to do, so after a dip initially for about two weeks, business was booming and I was at max capacity client wise!

“All of my work is online, so while business for online coaches thrived, personal trainers who worked in gyms really suffered, I think that’s going to be a dying business going forward as people have now seen the value in having someone online vs face to face.

“All my clients get tailored training and nutrition plans, tonnes of guides and resources to help them, weekly check ins, daily WhatsApp support from me, private FB group to interact with everyone else on the team and ask questions whenever they need to.

“I also did Facebook lives in the group during Covid to keep spirits and motivation high as well as answering questions on different topics each week.”

As Ireland and the world braces itself for a second wave of the virus, Maeve insists anyone can revolutionise their fitness and nutrition levels at home.

She added: “I literally created workouts using paint tins, and one of the most important things to get across to people was the importance of keeping some sort of routine going.

“Otherwise it’s just so easy to fall into the Netflix rabbit hole and not find a way out from under all the sweet wrappers.

“I had a great little set up in my garage so I produced loads of home workout videos for people to follow!

"They went down really well and are all still available on my Instagram page. You can also see some of the girls’ awesome transformations on there.

"Never in a million years did I think it would take off so quickly. I’m delighted.”
