Louth restaurant to offer Christmas Day meal to homeless, elderly and vulnerable people

A family-run restaurant will offer a free Christmas Day dinner to anyone who steps through their door that needs it.

Sitar Indian Restaurant in Dundalk only opened in the town in the last 18 months, having moved from Carlingford.

But the support of the locals has been so overwhelming, the owners have said they want to give something back.

A post from Sitar on social media explained: "As a small family run Takeaway and Restaurant we've discussed and decided to give something back the community.

"So this Christmas on the 25th December we have decided to open our takeaway area from 5pm-8pm to serve any homeless, elderly and vulnerable people a free takeaway hot meal with a Indian Masala Tea.

"You can also pickup a meal for a neighbor (Senior/Disabled) if they can't get out.

"Whoever walks through our door will have total anonymity. No Questions will be asked! There'll be no pictures or anything like that taken.

"If we can make Christmas just a little bit better for even one person by opening our doors and providing a warm and friendly meal well that's enough for us."

People were full of praise in the comments, with one person writing: "Our guys generosity, kindness & goodwill on a day that some have nothing just shows the type of people yous are"

A second wrote: "Absolutely amazing gesture for people who need it well done."
