Louth GAA in mourning following death of well-known umpire and former hurler

Louth GAA have led tributes following the death of former county hurler Paul Ward.

The well-known umpire passed away suddenly on Tuesday, with tributes pouring in from the GAA community and beyond since.

Louth GAA said in a statement: "Louth GAA are deeply saddened to learn of the death of former county hurler and well known umpire Paul Ward, who passed away suddenly this afternoon.

"The thoughts and prayers of all in Louth GAA are with Paul’s family and friends at this difficult time. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam."

Another comment read: "RIP Paul, Louth Gaa has lost a true gentleman and supporter."

Someone else commented: "Such sad news. A great man always ready to help anyone. May you rest in eternal peace Paul."

One other person said: "Can’t believe this news. A great supporter to Louth hurling. Followed us all over the country. RIP."
