Louth bride-to-be hoped to marry on parents' anniversary but forced to postpone

A bride-to-be who hoped to get married on her parents’ wedding anniversary will walk down the
aisle with rings engraved with the date instead.

Jenny McGuinness, from Stabannon, Co Louth, and fiancé Ciaran Treanor had to replace a lavish post-wedding dinner at Cabra Castle with a takeaway from their favourite pizza parlour.

The couple were supposed to get wed last Friday but reset their big day for December 23.

And their wedding bands will still be engraved with April 17 – the same day Jenny’s parents wed 37 years ago.

The 32-year-old, who lives with Ciaran outside Emyvale, Co Monaghan, said: “Covid-19 restrictions scuppered our plans. We had to cancel everything.

“We were disappointed at the time but the main thing is that everyone is healthy and we know it will happen when all this is over.”

Jenny, who plays with the Stabannon Parnells GAA Club, added she is disappointed she won’t share her big day with her parents Ann and Hughie.

She said: “I had hoped to have the same wedding anniversary as them but it wasn’t to be.

“The rings have already been engraved with that date and we won’t change the inscription so it will be a story to tell in the coming years.”
