A serial offender who spat on a cop and was caught twice with a knife has been told there was no other option but jail for the “disgraceful” incidents.
James McDermid was jailed for more than two years at Paisley Sheriff Court after he pleaded guilty to a string of charges which took place between October last year and April this year.
The 30-year-old of Bruce Avenue in the Gallowhill area, was slammed by Sheriff Gillian Craig for his behaviour during the multiple incident which she said “caused alarm to many members of the public”.
In one incident on October 8 last year, McDermid challenged a man to a fight while on Bruce Road near his home.
The lout brandished a chain and made threatening gestures towards John Donohue and hurled sectarian remarks at him and Lauren Sanders.
McDermid was also caught twice with a knife on April 5 and May 14 this year on Belmont Road and Lochfield Road in Paisley.

He admitted struggling with police and making violent threats towards officers while they tried to arrest him on April 5.
And plead guilty to walking into traffic on Lochfield Road and punching a car while in possession of a weapon.
The brute also spat on a police officer while at the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley after being arrested on May 14.
His solicitor told the court there was a large gap in his offending prior to the spate of incidents.
But Sheriff Craig raised concerns about his offending, which she said was “escalating rapidly”.
She told McDermid in the dock: “You have pled guilty to a number of charges.
“I think you yourself acknowledge that what has happened is a pretty disgraceful turn of events which would have caused alarm to many members of the public.
“Given where you were in your pattern of offending an the seriousness of the incidents, I have no option but to send you to custody.”
McDermid was jailed for a total of 26 months.
